This personal interest project has been a quite interesting and factual task where I was able to explore and investigate a part of the 'Identity' topic which I felt intrigued me. This project has enabled me to take charge of my learning and reach my full capability with individual tasks.

The completed project consists of a website with 6 tabs on it, 5 of which include information and visual representations on the story of Malala Yousafzai and the way events and factors in her life have impacted her identity. The final tab is where I recorded my blog.

I feel the way I have presented all of my research and analysis of Malala is very effective owing to the fact that I have used different ways of expressing information, such as images/slideshows, videos, text and quotes. All of these help the viewer grasp a better understanding of my intention and focus for the project in an easy and quick way.

At the beginning of this project I stated that using the habits of mind, planning my ideas, checking my work with another person and managing my time would help me to complete everything as best as I can. I have without doubt used the habits of mind every time I worked on the project; such as I persisted when choosing a way to present the project and when I could not find anything I entirely liked. I also used that habit of mind 'Creating, Imagining and Innovating' when I began to form the multimedia presentation. I also certainly checked my work with my friends constantly to get another person's opinion and view. Managing my time was not a problem either as I used all of class time lessons effectively and worked on the task a little bit each night to finish on time.

After reflecting and thinking about this entire project I have come to realise that my knowledge and understanding on the impact of events in our lives has grown. Malala Yousafzai is a role model to everyone; boy or girl, woman or man. Researching her life story has been an experience I won't forget where I have learnt many new things; such as how to thoroughly appreciate education and the way I, as a young woman, am treated equally here in Australia. This task has been a great opportunity for me and I do hope that not only English but other subjects will offer an assignment similar to this some time in the future.

For my project I have decided to create a website. At first I wanted to create either a Glogster or an Animated Movie, however after exploring each one I finally decided on a website. On this website there will be a few different tabs which explore different areas of the life of Malala.

So far I have created 4 tabs.
The first one is a home page where a brainstorm of the word 'Identity' can be seen and also photos of Malala.
The second tab is 'About Malala' and it includes a youtube video on her which I created.
The third tab explores Malala's identity and the aspects which influence it, especially on critical events in her life which is the overall focus of the project.
The final tab is my blog which records my progress of the project.

I am continuing to add to the website as I form new ideas and find more information.

After brainstorming all of my ideas for my personal project I have been researching and investigating thoroughly identity and the life of Malala Yousafzai. After much research I have decided that I am going to focus on the idea of how critical events in our life shape the person we are or our identity.

What is Identity?
The characteristics determining who or what a person or thing is. Our identity is shaped by many factors both internal and external. Some of which include our family, culture, gender, religion and appearance.

About Malala
Malala is a school student and education activist from the town of Mingora in Pakistan. She is known for her women's rights activism where the Taliban has specifically banned girls from attending school. As a child Malala became an advocate for girl's education resulting in the Taliban issuing a death threat. Malala's father is an anti-taliban activist which influenced her to also stand up for what she believed in. On October 9th 2012, Malala was shot in the head in an assassination attempt by the Taliban while on a school bus. The Taliban claimed credit for this and vowed to kill her for encouraging ideas about education.

I have gathered lots of interesting and useful information from Malala's very own blog, which is available on the BBC website. This blog details her life under the Taliban rule and her views on education for women.

Blog available from:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7834402.stm

I will also incorporate various quotes from Malala which are going to support my focus for the project.
"One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world."

"My goal is not to get the Noble Peace Prize. My goal is to get peace and to see education of every child."

"I don't know why people have divided the whole world into two groups; eastern and western. Education is neither easter nor western, education is education and it's the right of every human being."

"I believe there is no difference between a man and a woman. I even believe that women are even more powerful than man."

"I raise up my voice- not so that I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard."

As I continue to read about the life of Malala, many ideas and features of identity can be perceived.  Malala has surely found and shaped her identity as a result of events and obstacles throughout her life.

Case Study: Malala Yousafzai

Focus/Ideas: Examine how obstacles/critical events shape the person we are

How living in different environments alter our values

Type of Multimedia Presentation: Website

For my Personal Interest Project I have decided to do a case study on Malala Yousafzai.
The intention of this project is to understand how Malala is perceived in society and to recognise how our surrounding environment and the obstacles we face in life shape the person we are. This project is aimed at young people as it focuses on the value of education in poorer countries, compared to well off societies such as Australia.

My inspiration for this project is Malala herself and the bravery, courage and determination she displays each and every day which positively reflects her identity. This project will not only examine her life and the critical events which she has experienced, but will also hopefully inspire and motivate more young people to stand up for what is right and assess their own identity and contribution to society.

To gain further knowledge of this study I have begun to read Malala's own online blogs, quotes and diary entries. Also I have read biographies and newspaper articles. All of these have helped and continue to help me understand the incredible and unique story of Malala Yousafzai.

In order to achieve this project I am planning on finishing researching and gathering more in depth information, then using this I will begin to explore the key themes and ideas of identity within her story. After highlighting the major ideas of identity I will begin to formulate my multimedia presentation.

To complete the project I will be required to manage my time effectively, use all of the habits of mind, plan all of my ideas clearly and continue to check my work with another person.

I have decided to present my project on a website. This is a great way for anyone to access it and I can also be creative with it while presenting a lot of information.

"I thought why should I wait for someone else? Why don't I raise my voice? Why don't I stand up for my rights? I need to tell world what is happening." -Malala Yousafzai
